Happy New Year

So it's been a while since I last posted anything, I'm just going to chalk it up to being to lazy. Well it's a new year! Hopefully it will be a good year. After a slow and steady pace of college, I will finally be getting my AA in liberal arts. Yay, me! Hopefully I will be able to make it at uh manoa, I'm not to sure if I want to go down the fine arts major or not but if I do I really have to work on my portfolio. To bad I haven't kept up on my art.

This year I will try to work on making my resolutions. I don't have much, but I would like to try and make my resolutions realistic and hopefully I will succeed.

1: I would like to have at least 10 arts pieces finished. I wonder if the art piece I started last year will count considering it will be finished in a matter of days.

2. Lose some weigh! Isn't it everyone resolution to lose some weight. I would hope fully lose 20 lbs. it might not be a lot but I think it would be enough so my knees won't hurt all the time.

3. Finish maybe 5 poems. Considering I only truly finished 1 last year.

I think that will be all for my New Years resolution. I will be back to write later.

Drama, drama, drama . . .

So I have decided to do a semi productive post, by productive I mean I am going to write something and the semi part is just not sure if it will be any good but anywho. The only reason I am taking up the proverbial pen and paper only the modern version which doesn't require killing a bunch of trees to write on, is because of a drama.
This is the cast of the Korean make. They titled it "To The Beautiful You."
The Koreans have come out with the K-drama version of Hana Kimi, which by the way is based off of a manga, but the Japanese have made a J-drama adaption, in a matter of fact they made it twice. The Taiwanese have made their own version as well.

What surprises me is all this squabble online about the different makes of this manga adaption! It is enough that it actually makes me want to say something about it for a change. I guess I am what people would call a lurker, I just read stuff online on certain sites and read the free-for-all that goes on on a daily basis.

But this is one of my favorite manga! I take a certain amount of offense to people that talk trash about something I enjoy! I might as well throw my two cents in, even if I might be the only one that'll read it! Ha!
And this is the Japanese cast.

And finally this is the poster for the Taiwanese version.

The only way I think people will like this drama is to just watch it like its a brand new show. Well first off, I suppose it is new per se. While it is basically telling the same story, each version is being told from a slightly different point of view. I have watched both the Japanese and the Taiwanese makes of this Manga and have liked them both equally. For one, they have different ways of showing humor; Japanese have this weird quirky humor throughout the drama, while the Taiwanese followed  the manga a bit more faithfully.

What really makes or breaks these different makes are the actors and actresses that are cast in the lead roles. Thankfully those cast as the main characters have fit their roles and it does make the show that much easier to watch (or it does for me anyway). It was just the different execution that made them their own drama, and just by loving the Manga I was able to enjoy both of the dramas.

Anyway, I've been reading a lot of fan comparisons online, such as "the Japanese version was better, it beat the Taiwanese version", blah, blah, blah. While I understand it is solely the person's opinion and everyone is free to love or hate what they want. But why can't people just watch something without comparing it? How hard is it to put the judgment on the back burner and just enjoy the story from another point of view? What the writers have done for each variation of this drama is pick and choose certain part of the manga they liked and add a but of their own flare to it. That, to me, is what makes each of these versions worth watching. What fun would it really be if they simply followed the Manga squarely from start to finish?

So today I went to the beach! I don't think it's going to help me tan or anything, but it felt nice to go swimming. I guess I need to go more often because going to the beach is peaceful, at least for me. I want to watch the sunset one day soon, just sit and listen to the ocean and watch.

School is done for the semester, I am pretty happy how I did this semester. Only one more semester and I can finally get my AA certificate. It has taken me along time but at least I am getting somewhere.
